This wonderful novel is set in 1946 and written as an exchange of letters. They initially concern the perils of being a writer and the trouble success brings, but move on to Guernsey’s occupation during the Second World War.

Readers will fall in love with the characters, in particular Juliet, the successful London author who is enthralled to discover what life was like for the islanders during the war, and Dawsey, her initial correspondent from the island.

When Juliet decides to visit Guernsey and the characters finally become real for her, the impact on her own life is greater than she could have imagined.

This is a delightful book: readers will wish they could hop on a boat to Guernsey to meet the characters for themselves.
